Anatomy of a birthday card..

In most animation studios people have birthdays, and on these days some people get a birthday card made for that them. If you’ve read my previous post on bday cards you know I like the challenge of the quick turn-a-round from concept to finished illustration and I have to say it’s all about the getting it done. This post I will show the steps from test to completion.
lo.

So here’s the sketch, this is usually the longest part of the process. A couple of thumbnails and the a working layout.

Then, in this case I painted a test because it is water-proof ink and I want to get an idea of a finish.

Once the test is done and I kind of know where I stand, I paint the sucker and move on to the final stage..

I then scan the painting and mess around in photoshop to age an place in a proper 40’s style layout. In the end it’s not perfect but it was good to finish something.
lo.

Great stuff! I´m glad you finally updated. Really like your style and how expressive your characters are.

You know what? Yesterday I dreamt they had Rose & Isabel and Friday night fights! I live in Spain so its hard to get independent comics sometimes.

    Cheers!
